My
father died when I was 4 years old, so I don’t remember much
of him, and my mother died the next year. After that, my
mothers brother took me to his home far away from where I had
lived with my parents. My uncle had a big family, and they
were not happy to have me. I was always told to work, I washed
their clothes and walked to collect water for dishwashing and
showers. When I was 7 years old I asked if I could start going
to school but the family would not let me, I had to stay home
and work. I went to school anyway and asked the teachers if I
could begin. The teachers gave me permission, but when I came
home to my aunt she would not give me food anymore. For some
years now the teachers have given me some food at school, but
sometimes I had to find food other places and try to cook for
myself. I was lucky when I could find food but often I had
nothing in my stomach when I went to bed. Now I am living with
Emma and feel very happy with the other children, thanks to
God.
