were four children in our family, we lived in Dar-es-Salaam,
we have an older brother, and a younger brother who is very
sick, they live in the bush with the mother of our mother. She
is very old and can’t keep of all of us, so after our mother
died it was decided that we had to come to live with our
grandfather (the father of our father). It was a very hard
life, because our grandfather has a very big family and little
food left for us, but sometimes our neighbour was helping us.
In stead of living with our grandfather we wished we could
have stayed on our own in Dar, but our parents did not own a
house, they only rented a room and we could not keep that. We
thought that if we had to live with our grandfather it was
better to be dead, no one cared or thought about us, they did
not think that we needed food. We also needed water and soap
to wash, we needed clothes, school uniforms and sandals. We
could not stay in the house after school, we walked around to
try to find someone that could help. We could not believe it
that day when Emma came and asked if we wanted to live with
her, but we left happy. Thank you very much for thinking about
us, we did not know that one day we would be so lucky. One
of the boys said: I was thinking one day to jump in the Ruaha
River from the bridge so I could die in the water, thank you
very much Emma to become my new mother!
